The Assignment

Known for their collaborative and positive workplace culture, WGA – a large engineering consultancy in Adelaide take the process of hiring new staff seriously! The role of Executive Assistant within WGA is a critical position for the business as it’s required to provide high level administrative support to the three Directors of the business. WGA initially undertook the recruitment of the role internally including Seek advertising, however after interviewing the candidate’s they had sourced through that process, they felt that they still hadn’t found the ‘right’ person. Faced with the challenge of finding a high-level assistant who not only fit the organizational culture but could also work effectively with the three personalities and working styles of the Directors, WGA engaged the services of Blackman Mansfield to assist with the recruitment process.

The Solution

Already familiar with the organisational culture at WGA, Melanie took an in-depth brief of the role to gain a greater understanding of the three Director’s – as this was really the key to a successful hire. With a clear idea of the type of person she was looking for, Melanie drew on her networks in executive administration and quickly established that a candidate she had only met with the week prior was an excellent fit. Within a matter of days, WGA interviewed the candidate, invited her back for a second interview and then made an offer.

The Result

Working with Blackman Mansfield allowed WGA to access ‘passive’ candidates who weren’t necessarily applying to job ads online. Having already spent a significant amount of time on the recruitment process, working with Melanie also allowed WGA’s HR personnel to focus on other projects as they could be confident that the process was being managed effectively and by someone who understood the business and their requirements.

The successful candidate has now successfully passed probation and couldn’t be happier! She appreciated the in-depth brief Melanie was able to provide regarding the role and the organsiation and she feels that she’s found her ‘home’. WGA are equally as pleased with the outcome as what began as quite a challenging position to recruit has been filled with someone who is excelling in the role and has added a huge amount of value to the business – plus she has nailed working across the three Directors seemingly effortlessly! WGA have since engaged Blackman Mansfield for a further role (IT Support Officer) which was also successfully placed within a short timeframe.
